Gödöllő Climate Club

June 2010

Our last Climate Club before the summer break was held on 16th June on Wednesday in the Regina House.

Among other things we discussed the following topics in the Club:
- how to continue the Club from autumn? What shall we change?
- the role of the local economy in our world of changing climate – fortunately, Gábor Nagy, who is actively organizing the Gödöllő community money system, was our guest for this issue. In our April newsletter you could read more about this topic:

„Our Market” in Gödöllő

Our Market is an internet based „favours bank” (or alternative local currency) initiative of the Gödöllő group of the Pilis Exchange Club. Its aim is to continuously provide the participating families with the basic resources for life while the social conditions and systems are getting more and more insecure. Its tool is the local money which ensures economic exchange for the participants while in the financial world there is a lack of money.

It is about the use of a local (or complementary, complementing the official currency exchange) community currency. In today’s Hungary there are a number of local money systems. The starters of the Gödöllő initiative consider the Pilis Crown Exchange infrastructure the most suitable for use.

Only private individuals can join Our Market, the favourbank that works as an Exchange Club, and can offer their services, used or unnecessary belongings for the community of the exchange club for local money (in this case Pilis Crown). The Exchange Club has an operating database with accounts for the incoming and outgoing money.

The setting up of the Gödöllő Climate Club was supported by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission in the framework of the “Changing Behaviour” programme.
